Hampton Court

I somehow had the idea that the 80 minute walk, train, bus journey to Hampton court was going to get me out into the countryside, but by the time we arrived I realised that London is a large and sprawling city, and the boroughs just go on and on...

We were keen to maximise our annual pass to the palaces, and so Hampton Court - the favourite palace of King Henery VIII was our next choice.

The palace, like the Tower of London, recreates a sense of time and place with characters in role in the period interacting with the crowd. In this senario, a man in the court of Henry VIII is looking for information from those at court to validate claims that wife Anne B was entertaining other men.

The large feasting hall where Henry had 600 courtiers fed lavish meals 2 times a day

More entertainment down in the royal kitchens as chefs cook some of Henry's favourite pork pies - boiled in fat, sealing the outside crust and cooking the meat inside.
Also on the menu was a sweet tart made from the marrow of large beef bones mixed with cream and eggs.
