IOBAVET - Italy

Man bags are in
There are a lot of very stylie dressers - particularly in Venice
Holiday makers are easily spotted by their sensible sandals ( Keens and Tevas)
Anyone that wants to wears a bikini, age size and shape is no obstacle - and a lot of bum is on display
European men are keen on speedos
Sun tanning is in, especially to the truly bronze stage
Italian men really do wear medallions and gold necklaces
Everyone smokes
Coffee is always good
Latte is served as a single shot so off my order list - switched to cappuccino - which never comes with chocolate or cinnamon
Bread is put on your table as soon as seated in the restaurant, and then you are charged for it wanted or not, but apparently you don't eat it until the 2nd course. Unless you're starving weary travelers who don't know better, Maybe!
Camper van holiday makers are mostly in the mature age group
Some fashion youngsters wear their brogues without socks
Apparently when a mature Aussie couple sit on the steps nearby sporting yellow monogrammed Australian tee shirts and matching sandals Awhina is not allowed to call out " Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi"
Toilets are different at campgrounds, there are a lot of what look like foot toilets - ground level ceramic basins with tall looping taps. The actual toilets often have no seat, but almost always a lot of disability rails and handles, even in the most inaccessible of little cafes (great for mum), and we can't always work out how to make the basin water flow - last tricky one I managed was cause I spotted a foot peddle to step on. Haven't seen a bidet - or did I and miss it. And camp grounds also have a selection of cubicles with doors and just a hand-basin inside. Despite rows of basins and taps adjoining the shower area. What do they do in there?
The pizza is good, thin crust just how heather likes it
The wine is cheap, available anywhere, sometimes drunk with a late morning coffee (this may have been grappa)
Supermarkets - there is a whole isle for oil and balsamic, 3 choices of cereal - 2 of these will have chocolate bits in them,  wine is sold in up to 5 litre bottles, the fresh bread and deli sections are terrific, and you can't buy a face cloth anywhere.
Italians are known for their crazy driving, but what about their parking - there is no such thing as a meter from the corner, or single layer parallel, and if all the cars are parallel parked and there's no room for you - just poke the nose of your car at an angle into any gap and that will do!
